Registered Nurse Position:
S.P.A.R.C. Recovery is seeking a dependable and compassionate registered nurse to join our behavioral health and substance use treatment team. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring physical and mental health conditions. The ideal candidate will be professional, organized, client-centered, and able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
Position Summary:
The nursing staff member will assist in meeting the medical, behavioral health, and recovery-related needs of clients receiving substance use treatment services. This position includes assessing client needs, administering medications, coordinating medical care, monitoring client health concerns, providing health education, and maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with agency policy, licensing requirements, and professional nursing standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring health conditions.
- Assess clients’ physical and mental health needs and communicate concerns to appropriate medical, clinical, or supervisory staff.
- Administer medications as ordered and monitor clients for medication effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, and medication compliance concerns.
- Assist with medication management procedures, medication counts, documentation, and safe medication storage according to agency policy.
- Coordinate medical care for clients, including communication with providers, pharmacies, hospitals, treatment team members, and outside referral sources as appropriate.
- Educate clients on health-related issues, medication compliance, wellness, chronic health conditions, substance use recovery, relapse prevention, and follow-up care.
- Monitor clients for signs of withdrawal, intoxication, medical distress, behavioral health concerns, or changes in condition.
- Respond appropriately to medical needs, emergencies, incidents, and client health concerns.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing assessments, interventions, medications administered, client responses, medical appointments, and follow-up needs in the electronic health record or paper chart.
- Participate in treatment team communication to support client care, safety, and continuity of services.
- Follow all confidentiality, HIPAA, professional ethics, and agency documentation requirements.
- Maintain professional boundaries with clients, families, staff, and community partners.
- Support a safe, respectful, trauma-informed, and recovery-focused environment.
- Complete assigned trainings, meetings, supervision, and compliance requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on client care needs and agency operations.
Qualifications:
- Current nursing license in good standing in the state of Kentucky
- Ability to work with individuals with substance use disorders, mental health concerns, trauma histories, and complex medical needs.
- Strong communication, documentation, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful or crisis situations.
- Knowledge of medication administration, client assessment, health education, and care coordination.
- Ability to work as part of a team while maintaining appropriate professional judgment and boundaries.
- Experience in substance use treatment, behavioral health, residential treatment, corrections, detox, psychiatric care, or similar setting preferred.
- Must be able to meet pre-employment requirements, including background check, drug screening, TB screening, licensing requirements, and other agency requirements.
